You hear it on the radio. You see it on TV. You read about it in the newspaper. Year after year, with increasing numbers, our neighborhoods are thrust into the limelight due to sudden and unexpected news about a child or young adult who has either been hurt, violated or disappeared and, as a result, our community is damaged. As disconcerting as these realities may be, they are, unfortunately, part of our society today.
While these horrid events touch our lives, straining our emotional and mental well being, they needn’t be as frequent. Perhaps, someday, they can be eliminated entirely.
Children’s safety should become the most important aspect of parenting. They are our responsibility, our legacy, our future. We need to provide our children with the tools they need to learn, play, and grow in a safe environment, and ultimately develop into responsible adults. In order to achieve this, a team effort is required on the part of parents, teachers, and the community at large, to help our kids strengthen their mental and physical capabilities.

Israeli Survival, Krav Maga is the most effective form of training, specializing in self-protection and self-defense.
Krav Maga is a Hebrew word meaning “contact combat” and it is a simple, instinctual, aggressive, effective, logical, realistic, easy to learn, and most important, easy to remember system of self-defense. Unlike traditional Martial Arts, Survival Krav Maga training focuses primarily on principles rather than techniques because no two people, attacks or circumstances are ever the same. And, in fact, the same person may react different to a similar confrontation or threat.
This system has been used by people of all ages in Israel for over 60 years to combat crime, rape, abduction, terrorism etc.
Survival Krav Maga is intended to give its students the skills, techniques and the ability needed to escape from almost any situation virtually unharmed (including firearms, knives, clubs) Students learn how to deal with confrontations psychologically as well as physically, sharpening their abilities to recognize situations where their safety is at risk and providing them with tools to save their lives.
The instruction concentrates on total physical conditioning to be prepared for the physical, mental and emotional demands of escaping from a dangerous and potentially harmful situation or event.
Having received Krav-Maga training in 1972 while serving in the Israeli Air Force,
Miki Erez,a native from Petah Tikva, started to train in various types of self-defense and combative techniques under Dennis Hanover, a 9th degree black belt and founder of the Israeli Survival Hisardut System. Erez continued his studies under the direction of Imi Lichtenfeld and in 1979, he served on the Israeli Full-Contact Karate Team where he became a national champion.
Erez received his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and has implemented this knowledge in all aspects of his professional career. Arriving in the United States in 1980 as a recognized Sensei of the Kyokushin Karate style, which later developed into World Oyama Karate.
Combining all the knowledge and skills he developed throughout the years, Erez continues to train children, teenagers and adults.
With increasingly unsafe environments in our schools, parks, shopping malls, house of worship, parking lots, recreational facilities, even our own neighborhoods close to home, we must be diligent in our pursuit of teaching and training our children to not only respect one another; but to recognize many different scenarios that may pose a threat to their safety and well being.
